SAD approaches Calcutta again, to anoint him Chief Advisor

AMRITSAR: Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) led by Simranjit Singh Mann has reportedly approached veteran Sikh leader Manjit Singh Calcutta again to join hands with the party.

Calcutta has so far not yet confirmed conceding to the party’s demand while SAD (A) General Secretary Jaswant Singh Mann said Calcutta has been anointed Chief Advisor of the party.

Mann said in the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls, all the Akali factions would jointly contest against the SAD (Badal).

Meanwhile, former Akali Dal leader Manjit Singh Calcutta confirmed meeting Mann but evaded reply on the question whether he had officially joined Mann Dal.

He said he would consider joining the party only after he gets a formal request from Mann in writing.

Calcutta said he was currently working with many organizations and was ready to offer his services to Mann Dal but there was no need to anoint him as Chief Advisor.

It may be mentioned here that SAD (A) had approached Calcutta earlier this year, however, the talks could not prove fruitful as the Sikh leader did not agree to the demand of Khalistan.

Mann Dal is also holding ‘Insaaf’ (Justice) rally on September 28 in Naushehra Pannuan in district Tarn Taran to highlight the injustices and issues affecting Sikh community over the years including punishment of perpetrators of anti-Sikh killings in 1984 and opening of Indo-Pak border.
