Taking up a petition filed by Ludhiana municipal corporation's building inspector Mandhir Singh alleging threat to his life from Atam Nagar MLA Simarjit Singh Bains, Punjab and Haryana high court has issued notice of motion to the Punjab government and the MLA.
The court headed by justice Daya Chaudhary directed the state government as well as the MLA to file their replies before October 10.
A resident of Model Town, the petitioner has sought directions to Ludhiana police commissioner to provide him protection from the MLA and a Giaspura resident, Amrik Singh.
The petitioner has submitted that the municipal commissioner received a complaint from former mayor Harbans Singh Giaspura that there were four shops coming up illegally in Giaspura industrial area, which were under possession of Amrik Singh. The commissioner then directed the assistant town planner to look into the matter who in turn directed the petitioner to visit the site.
It was further added that when he visited the site, Amrik was not able to show him sanctioned site plan following which he advised Amrik to stop the construction on May 18.But construction at the site was again started illegally and the petitioner was deputed by assistant town planner along with about 10 cops and a JCB machine that ultimately resulted in demolition of shops.
As soon as the petitioner came back to office from the spot, Simarjit Singh Bains, along with his brother Balwinder Singh Bains, also an MLA from Ludhiana South, reached there and started hurling abused at him and threatened that the petitioner would also be treated in the same manner like former tehsildar Gurjinder Singh Benipal, who was beaten up by them. The court was informed that the petitioner was so scared that he had to take leave from office and stay at some unknown place.
