Gujarat BJP MLA 'beats' youth with rod, caught on camera

A BJP legislator was today caught on camera apparently beating a "drunk" youth with a rod in Morbi district, Gujarat.

However, the police said that the youth was wielding a sword in an inebriated state when the MLA called up the police.

The video, taken by a by-stander, purportedly showed BJP MLA from Morbi, Kanti Amrutiya, and his boydguard, beating the youth with a rod.

The video is doing rounds in the social networking sites and WhatsApp.

Police said, the youth, Jagdish Lokhil, was welding a sword in a drunk state near Uma township of Morbi, and the MLA was also there.

"Amrutiya called the police, we went their and arrested the youth under the charges of prohibition and arms act," police official of the B-Division police station said

Amrutiya was not available for comment.
