Maid hangs self in her room at Chandigarh judge's house

Chandigarh, Sept. 8, 2013

A 32-year- old woman hanged herself to death at the residence of a district court judge in Sector 16 here on Saturday evening.The victim, Vishnu Devi, worked as a domestic help for the judge's family, and lived in a room at the house.

She was found hanging from the ceiling fan in her room by her husband Kishan. Police said both husband and wife had a verbal duel with each other in the afternoon over the regular drinking habit of Kishan.

Following the argument Kishan left the house for allegedly taking alcohol. However, he made his way back to home around 5pm only to find his wife hanging with the ceiling fan.

He rushed her to the Sector 16 general hospital, where she was declared brought dead. Police sources said Vishnu's two daughters had gone outside to play at the time of the incident.

No suicide note was recovered from the spot, said police. Kishan, who was in tears, said he had not expected such an extreme step from her and, that too, a day before her elder daughter's birthday. The body has been kept for an autopsy of the body was yet to be conducted, said police, adding that they were looking into the incident.
