PU students union poll Wednesday

Tight security arrangements have been put in place by authorities for the elections to the Panjab University (PU) Campus Students' Council to be held here Wednesday.

The elections to student bodies in affiliated colleges of PU located in Chandigarh will also be held simultaneously Wednesday.

"As many as 13,556 students from 58 departments and institutes of Panjab University campus would cast their votes on Sep 4, Wednesday to elect departmental representatives (DR) and PU Campus Students Council office bearers. The voting would be by secret ballot in 175 polling booths," a PU spokesman said here Tuesday.

Out of total 109 DRs, 51 DRs from 32 departments have been elected unopposed.

The university campus will be out of bounds for outsiders Wednesday as the polling is held and results declared later in the day.

The highest number of voters are in the University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET) with 2,429 students, Laws (1,254) and University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS) with 895.
