September 07, 2014 01:53 PM

Two mechanical engineers of Panjab Engineering College changed their
career path to start a bakery unit.

Having left their well paying jobs, the duo, Simranjit Singh and
Saurabh Chopra, decided to be entrepreneurs and started looking for
opportunities six months back, and ultimately decided to enter the
field of hospitality industry by setting up their own bakery.

Chipping in their own savings and bank loan, the unit has been set up
in Mohali and have opened their first outlet in Sector 46C.

Simranjit Singh passed out in 2006 while Saurabh completed his
mechanical engineering from PEC in 2009, and since both knew each
other, they decided to venture out on their own and turn entrepreneur.

We have plans to set up a few more outlets in the tricity area this
year and go beyond 50 kms area on franchise model, quips Simranjit.

My mother was my inspiration who is a good baker herself and I used to
help her in the kitchen while baking cake, Saurabh said, who worked
for almost four years with an MNC in Noida, and abroad.

Simranjit Singh however picked up the fundamentals of bakery at a
French bakery Le Pain Quotidien in New York, USA.

Both of them wanted to create a range of cakes, pastries, cookies, and
snacks that are best in quality yet affordable.

We studied the market that there had been hardly any bakery catering
to the middle segment, Saurabh says.

Employing the best team of chefs, the duo is all set to expand into
other sectors soon, while Simranjit is a foodie Saurabh is a techie
guy who have put into place some of the best systems in place to
manage the bakery operations.

“We are mechanical engineers and just love to manage projects and
Buddies Bakery is our passion,” add Simranjit and Saurabh.

The city would not have seen some of the specialities that we offer
including cake pops, cup cakes, and bite-size mini cup cakes, rusks in
chocolate flavours, and a wide variety of cookies which include
Italian Biscoti, Choco, Pista and almond sticks, etc.

On the way we were helped by Hotel Aroma’s owner Man Mohan Singh Kohli
and CJ Singh of Startup Accelerator Chamber of Commerce (SACC), who
mentored us throughout in setting up this unit, strategizing its
launch, and mentoring us on diverse fields, be it branding, supply
chain management, or networking with the customers.
