“Govt. sponsored Scholarship Schemes’ Awareness Programme” for rural students launched by Aryans

Mohali: Aryans Group of Colleges,Chandigarhtoday completed the first stage of “Govt. sponsored Scholarship Schemes Awareness Programme”. The Programe has been launched by Aryans Group in December, 2013 to make the Village students aware about various Central & State Scholarship Schemes available to them. Under this Pilot Project, there is the proposal to cover 60 Villages and 3000 students ofPatialadistrict. Out of this, 20 Villages and more than 800 students have already been covered.

 

During the Programme, Aryans Team consisting of around 100 members under the leadership of Prof. A P Jain, Ms Manpreet Mann & Ms Kanchan; covered 20 Villages through door to door campaign. The team met the students and their parents and made them aware about various Scholarship Schemes including Post Matric Scholarship (PMS) Scheme, Ministry of Minority Affairs (MOMA) Scholarship, MHRD Scholarship etc. 

 

The major villages covered under this campaign till now were Jangpura, Jalalpur, Gobindpura, Kalomajra, Jhansla, Banur, Nepra, Alampur, Thuha, Niamatpura, Jansuha, Pehar, Gardi Nagar, Surajgarh etc.

 

Congratulating the team for completing first stage of this Initiative, Dr Anshu Kataria, Chairman, Aryans Group said that the Central Govt. spends a large amount every year on Scholarships to the students for pursuing technical and higher Education. But all in vain until the actual beneficiary has the proper knowledge of it. He added that due to lack of awareness among Village students about these scholarship schemes, thousands of students despite being eligible remain deprived from studies.

 

Dr Kataria further said that in the year 2013-14, there was a provision of around 6500 crore for SC/ST/OBC students under Post Matric Scholarship Scheme.  But students were not able to avail the full benefits of these scholarships due to lack of awareness. In an attempt to make the SC/ST and OBC students aware about these schemes, Aryans would do every possible effort to enlighten the students about such schemes. 

 

It is to mentioned that Scholarship is awarded  to the students who have secured not less than 50% marks or equivalent grade in the previous final examination and the annual income of whose parents/guardian from all sources does not exceed Rs. 2.5 Lakh for SC, Rs. 4.5 Lakh for ST & Rs. 1 Lakh for OBC.

 

Dr. Kataria said that the students coming under minority category inIndialike Sikhs, Muslims, Buddhists, Jainism and Parsi can avail the benefit of Ministry of Minority Affairs (MOMA) scholarship which is meant for the welfare and for financial assistance to brilliant students of minority class to obtain higher as well as professional qualification.

 

He further said that above Post Matric Scholarship Scheme's main objective is to award scholarships to meritorious students belonging to economically weaker sections of minority community so as to provide them better opportunities for higher education increase their rate of attainment in higher education and enhance their employability.
