Chandigarh, : All under investigation cases pertaining to NRI’s should be disposed of in a transparent & time bound manner & list of all criminal cases related to NRI’s alongwith status report should be sent to the IGP NRI Affairs.
IGP NRI Police Wing, Punjab Mrs. Gurpreet Kaur Deo has issued strict directions regarding this to all Commissioners & SSP’s while presiding over a meeting here today to review the status of under investigation cases of NRI’s in the state. Mrs. Gurpreet Deo said that currently there are about 120 under investigation cases related to NRI’s in the state.
Mrs. Deo said that the districts where NRI Police stations do not exist would also be monitored by the NRI Police Wing and in cases where the progress of investigation is not found satisfactory such cases would be transferred to the NRI Police stations for further investigation.
IGP said that she has asked DIG NRI Police Wing Mr. L.K. Yadav to hold a meeting with the Senior Superintendents of Police to dispose of under investigation NRI cases in a fixed time. She said that special emphasis is being laid on speedy and fair investigation to provide justice.
IGP said that Deputy Chief Minister S. Sukhbir Singh Badal has directed that no laxity would be tolerated at any level in dealing with the cases which should be dealt in a time bound and transparent fashion. She added that status report of under investigation cases of NRI would be the part of agenda of next meeting of SSP’s with the Deputy CM.
Mrs. Gurpreet Deo said that Punjab Government has established independent NRI Wing under the IGP Rank officer with dedicated Police force of 300 Police Officials and set up 8 NRI District Police stations to redress NRI related issues and 3 more police stations are being notified within few days. She added that three sub divisional Dy. SP’s designated as DSP NRI will monitor and investigate the disposal of NRI related cases in the state and will be located at Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Moga. She further said that Dy. CM has desired the NRI Police stations in the state shall have jurisdiction over all 27 Police Districts in the state which shall be done shortly through a government notification.
She said that nodal officer of Inspector rank at NRI Wing office would monitor each case in time bound manner under close supervision by Assistant Inspector General of Police/DIG NRI & Women Wing Time bound.
IGP further said that NRI Police Wing has established 24x7 Punjab Police Helpline for NRIs 0091-2298543 to redress their complaints and other than this they could also register their complaints at official website of the department i.e www.nri.pbpolice.com. She also added that online system has been developed for online access of status of NRI’s cases from time to time.
