Punjab to establish four world class sports centres—Sukhbir Singh Badal

MUKTSAR:In order to promote sports in the state, four world class Centres for Excellence in Sports would be established in Amritsar, Bathinda, Mohali and Jallandhar. This was stated here today by Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal, Deputy Chief Minister Punjab while addressing the gathering at Barjindera College at the concluding day of the 22nd All India Baba Farid Gold Hockey Club organized to mark the birth anniversary of Baba Sheikh Farid. The Deputy Chief Minister said that the state government has taken adequate steps to promote sports in the state. The budget for the sports in Punjab has been enhanced from Rs. 12 Crore to Rs. 142 Crore during 2013-14, he added.


To ensure world class facilities in the coming up centers of excellence including the hi-tech training to the sportspersons and professional coaches would be made available, said Mr. Badal. The government would focus on the maximum participation of the players in the Olympics, he said. To further promote Kabbadi in Punjab, he said that 4th World Kabbadi Cup would be organized in the state from November 9 to 23.


Mr. Badal said that the basic amenities like sewerage and drinking water facilities would be ensured in Faridkot. He also announced to launch a project worth Rs. 10,000 Crore for the overall development of Punjab in the coming two years. Mr. Badal Congratulated the winner team of Punjab and Sindh Bank and honoured the players on the occasion. Mrs. Paramjit Kaur Gulshan, Member Parliament, Mr. Mantar Singh Brar, Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Mr. Deep Malhotra, MLA Faridkot were present amongst others.
