Harsimrat urges Center-immediately announce water logging project as ‘national project’

BATHINDA---     Mrs. Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Member Parliament today strongly urged the Union Government to immediately announce the project to tackle gigantic problem of water logging in the state as ‘National Project’ besides releasing the package of Rs. 960.62 crore without any delay.

 
Presiding over Sangat Darshan programs to resolve the on the spot grievances of people, Mrs. Badal said it was Punjab, which brought out the country from food crisis after independence and made the country self sufficient on this front. She said that now the Center should adopt proactive approach to help the Punjab Government to resolve this enormous menace on priority. She said that Center should immediately release the requisite funds for this purpose besides announcing it a ‘National Project’.
 
 
 
During Sangat Darshan Programs at villages Kot Bhara, Chanarthal, Gehri Bara Singh, Ramnagar, Maur Charat Singh, Yatri and Marhi, Mrs. Badal said that farmers of Punjab worked day and night to make country prosperous on food security front, for which we have to pay heavy price as the level of ground water in state depleted day by day and it has risen to the risk end. She said that Punjab welcomes the invitation extended by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh to Punjab CM to come to Delhi and his assurance in this regard and there should be no delay in releasing amount and declaring it a national project. She said that Central team has already accessed the stock of affected villages and damage of crops on thousand acres, so, all the things were under the knowledge of Union Government to take appropriate steps in this regard.
 
 
Meanwhile, Mrs. Badal along with Mr. Janmeja Singh Sekhon, Irrigation Minister, also laid the foundation stone of Grain Market at Chanarthal. Addressing the gatherings at Sangat Darshan Programs, Mrs. Badal accused the Congress led UPA Government for squeezing the ‘aam aadmi’ under unprecedented price rise, inflation and corruption. She said that no policy and program of UPA Government can save it during ensuing general elections and the well informed electorates of country would decimate Congress Party in the coming elections. She also distributed sewing machines to students of sewing centers, who have passed out their courses under Nanhi Chaan program besides distributing grants to different villages for development works.
