Chandigarh: The Border Security Force (BSF) Saturday recovered 17 kg of heroin in Punjab's Ferozepur bordering Pakistan, officials said.
The heroin recovered is worth Rs.85 crore in the international market.
The recovery was made Saturday after alert BSF troopers sensed some movement near the border, and fired in that direction.
Smugglers, who were allegedly trying to push the consignment to India, escaped under the cover of darkness, BSF officials said.
The BSF had recovered 13 kg of heroin near the border in Amritsar Thursday. The consignment was worth Rs.65 crore in the international market.
The total drug seizure by the BSF along the 553-km India-Pakistan border in Punjab has gone up to 211 kg (till Sep 14) this year.
In 2012, the BSF had recovered over 288 kg of heroin along the Punjab border.
