Chairperson of Delhi Commission for Women Barkha Shuklla Singh said that the society is becoming increasingly self-centred, and that it is not only a matter of law, but the entire society must be responsible to cases like rape.
Criticising the society, she further added, “But every person is self-centred. Unless the society awakens it will be difficult to put a stop on it, how far will the law and police stop."
"Like it has been reported that she has been gangraped, her medical tests and her statements must be recorded. If she is not doing it, then it must be probed and the Punjab police must look into all of this so that the truth comes out of it," Singh said
The nurse was allegedly gang-raped by seven men in Budhlada town of Punjab's Mansa District on Monday.
She has refused to undergo medical tests and record her statements before the police. Meanwhile, two of the accused in this case, Balwinder Singh Kala and Manwinder, have been arrested by the Punjab Police. The victim was also robbed of many valuable items, including jewellery, cash and other items.
