Chandigarh, May 21 : Former Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh today lashed out at the Director General of Punjab Police Sumedh Singh Saini for his shameless self-praise when he should have felt sorry and apologised to the people of Punjab for failing to hold free and fair polls to the Zila Parishads and Block Samitis.
The former Chief Minister also blasted the police theory about the murderous assault on senior party leader Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi that left his PA injured with a gunshot.
He said, "the police were so shamelessly trying to cover up when everything is too obvious". Debunking the police claims of peaceful elections, Capt Amarinder asked, if that were so, should that mean all the newspapers and television channels which showed the violence, particularly in the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal's assembly constituency, lying. "It is disgustingly shameful on part of the DGP Saini to parrot what he has been preached by his political bosses", he regretted while adding, instead the police should feel ashamed for their partisan role during the elections.
He remarked, the very claim of the police that they had controlled everything up to the booth level was an admission that the elections were rigged and police did everything and that is what precisely Congress has been saying.
On the police claims that Rana Sodhi's PA had inflicted bullet injury upon himself and inserted a used cartridge for the purpose, the former Chief Minister said, even a naive person cannot buy this argument as empty shell does not get into the body. "And moreover Rana (Sodhi) is himself an international shooter to enact a fabricated story", he pointed out.
