Chandigarh: With as many as 2,429 votes in University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET), the department is set to play a key role in the elections to Panjab University (PU) Students’ Council, scheduled for September 4.

The department accounts for nearly 18 per cent of the total 13,542 voters at PU.

The last few days witnessed frenetic activity at the department campus in sector-25, with leaders of all hues making a beeline for the department in a bid to woo voters. Not only that, a few student organizations have also nominated UIET students to their election panels hoping that this would help them gain those few extra elusive votes.

Despite the election campaigning deadline on 10 am on Monday, students from various parties were witnessed raising slogans in support of their respective student organizations on Monday as well as on Tuesday.
