Government to invest Rs. 1700 crore for repair of rural link roads: Rakhra

SAS NAGAR: The Punjab Government would invest Rs. 1700 crore on the project of up gradation of rural link roads. The work on this project would commence next month. It was disclosed by Punjab Rural Development and Panchayat Minister Mr. Surjit Singh Rakhra while interacting with media persons at Majri Block office. Mr. Rakhra was here to participate in the ceremony of assuming charge by Mrs. Manjit Kaur Majra as Chairperson of Block Smiti Majri and Mr. Manjit Singh Khijarabad as Vice Chairman.
 
 
He said that training to the Sarpanches and Panchs would be imparted at the block level where as training to Zila Parishad and Block Samiti members would be imparted at District or State level. He said that the Punjab Government has envisaged the total facelift of villages which have been inhabited by more than 60% population of the state.

Mr. Rakhra reiterated that the government was working for the overall development of the villages in strategic way, for this purpose digital map of the villages prepared. He further said that the identification card of the entire rural representative have been issued to them in order to avoid their harassment in government offices.
 
 
Responding to the query of a journalist Mr. Rakhra said that Rs. 10 crore has been earmarked for the development of the villages of Kharar constituency and till date Rs. 5 crore has been released for this cause. Prominent among others, who were present at the occasion Jathedar Ujagar Singh Badali, former MLA, Mrs. Paramjit Kaur Badali, Chairperson of Zila Parishad, Mrs. Satwant Kaur Sandhu, former Minister, Mr. Ajmer Singh Kheda and Mr. Charanjit Singh Kalewal (both SGPC member) and Mr. Surjit Singh Ablowal, former Chairman of PUNSEED.
