SYNOPSIS:

The story of 'Happy New Year' revolves around Charlie (Shah Rukh Khan) who brings together six different people and makes up a team to take the revenge of his father (Anupam Kher) from a diamond tycoon named Grover (Jackie Shroff). The team comprises of Charlie, Nandu (Abhishek), Jack (Sonu Sood), Tammy (Boman Irani), Rohan (Vivaan Shah) and Mohini (Deepika Padukone). Charlie plans to steal Grover's diamond which is going to be showcased at an event on the occasion of New Years. They plan to perform a dance sequence to allow their entry into the venue. How they manage to reach the venue to perform and do they succeed in stealing the diamond? The answers to these questions forms the rest of story...

STORY, SCREENPLAY AND DIALOGUES:

If the story is concerned, we may have seen a few movies based on diamond theft or gold theft before, but not a single one can be compared to this marvel called Happy New Year. I better make a special mention for the writers, who have managed to incorporate a very emotional backdrop with the story which make the viewers get completely attached to the story. The screenplay again is extremely engaging and highly entertaining, which just won't allow you to blink your eyes even for a second. Coming to dialogues, they are extremely powerful and witty at given points. The dialogues evokes your positivity and in the same time makes your laughing buds happy. Hats off to the talented writers.

PERFORMANCES:

Its just another feather on Shah Rukh's cap. His acting prowess has been praised by one and all since years, but I must appreciate the honesty of a superstar like him, who gives almost equal screen time to all his co-stars; be it Sonu Sood, Abhishek, Boman, Deepika or even a newcomer like Vivaan Shah. He sure is a born superstar and gives a stupendious performance. Abhishek is very natural and Sonu impresses us with his act. After Dabbang, his performance will again not go unnoticed. Boman is an added advantage in this tsunami of entertainment called HNY. After portraying the character of a South Indian girl in Chennai Express, Deepika is seen playing a Marathi girl in this one and yet again, she has done a wonderful job. The beautiful actress looks glamorous as usual and she sure has left all her female contemporaries far behind. Vivaan Shah is equally good.

DIRECTION, CINEMATOGRAPHY AND EDITING:

After a debacle in the name of Tees Maar Khan, not much was expected out of Farah Khan. Even after all the criticism that the director faced after her last dud, Farah sure is back. She didn't miss a single opportunity to make the audience happy. From introducing each character into the screenplay to making them connect with the audience, there is not a single flaw in Farah's helming that I could point out. An extremely good job indeed.

ACTION, BACKGROUND SCORE AND MUSIC:The little amount of action present in the movie is top-notch. Speaking of songs, the album is amazing, especially the songs 'Lovely' and 'Satakli'. 'Lovely' has the ability to come out as a number one in the music charts. All the numbers are very well fitted in the plot.

CHOREOGRAPHY, LOCATIONS AND PRODUCTION VALUE:Choreography again has no flaws as such. Lovely has been choreographed amazingly and Deepika looks fabulous in the track.

OUR VERDICT: In a nutshell, HNY is a must must watch, if you are looking for pure entertainment and full paisa vasool cinema this holiday season, then just go for it. Its a complete family entertainer and a sure shot blockbuster.
