A Grief Support Helpline was launched today at Chandigarh Press Club to
provide emotional support to the families and individuals, who have
been dealing with long term trauma and pain at various levels.
The helpline number is 0172-5048788, where people in distress may call
during the office hours on working days.
The brain behind the social support helpline project, Ms Renu Mathur,
a renowned Tarot Reader and Life Coach, said, “I have met many people
who came to me to seek guidance in resolving various emotional
situations. It also included domestic violence, emotional and physical
abuse, incest, loss or death of a loved one, rape, long-term medical
situations etc. Realization dawned that after the initial concern and
support from various quarters, long term emotional support is rarely
available there.”
“Despite their best intentions, people go back to their routine lives,
leaving the individual or the family to deal with the pain alone. The
resultant manifestation is depression, behavioural changes,
withdrawal from normal life, even suicidal tendencies,” added Renu.
Renu further said, “In most cases a few minutes of affection,
understanding and emotional support can sometimes mean the difference
between life and death. I am thankful to the Stop Acid Attacks team,
who have come here all the way from New Delhi to support us for this
casue. These survivors of acid attacks are a beautiful example of
emotional strength that we need to learn from.”
Team members of “Stop Acid Attacks” (SAA), a Delhi-based voluntary
group of social activists formed to help the acid attacks victims,
were also present to extend their cooperation for the Grief Support
Helpline project. The SAA team included Laxmi, Ritu, Rupa and Atul
Kumar Singh.
