KJo is planning a sequel to SOTY but will he retain the original star cast?
The film industry is abuzz with the news that Karan Johar is all set to make a sequel to his hit film Student Of The Year (SOTY). The film saw Karan, who hitherto cast established stars in his films, working with newbies for the first time. He launched three new faces: Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Siddharth Malhotra in SOTY.
Says a insider, “Now whether Karan retains the cast of the original or brings a fresh batch of students for the sequel remains to be seen. Right now it is just an idea. No script is in place.” Also, all KJo’s students have graduated and moved to the next level! Offscreen as well as on-screen. Alia already had two releases Highway and 2 States, while Varun and Sidharth have had one each: Main Tera Hero and Hasee Toh Phasee respectively after SOTY.
It will be interesting to see what the class of 2013 thinks of Karan ‘sir’s’ sequel? Will they greet the new batch or ask him to hold a masterclass for them, instead!
Incidentally, though most of his films including Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham andKabhi Alvida Na Kehna have been superhits, KJO has never made a sequel to them. The only time Karan attempted to make one was for Dostana that he had produced. However, he and director Tarun Mansukhani couldn’t zero in on the right script yet.
