Beauty Wellness 9 recipe apps to help you

January 27, 2014 12:20 PM

The diet resolutions we've made at the start of the year are usually well on their way out by now. But with the end-of-year parties, indulgences and temptations around the corner, we found nine apps that keep you committed to eating healthy through to 2014.

Epicurious

The app gives you access to over 30,000 recipes pulled from the website and the other food publications in the Condé Nast universe like Bon Appétit and Gourmet. The home screen lets you browse through options for healthy breakfasts, lunches, snacks and entrees, but you can also use the search option to look for recipes tailored to dietary restrictions.

Healthy Recipes

This app from SparkRecipes.com breaks down the nutritional information for each dish -- the carbs, calories, fibre, protein, fat and more. The app also includes a conversions tab, which makes it super easy to switch between metric and imperial (used commonly in the US) measurements for ingredients.

Perfect Produce

This app walks you through the shopping aisle to your kitchen. It addresses a number of questions: what fruits and vegetables to buy, which ones are seasonal, what their nutritional value is, how to store or preserve them and finally how to use them in a recipe.

iOS | Android

Whole Foods Market Recipes

The On-Hand search feature is particularly useful. It lets you input any ingredients you already have in your refrigerator or pantry and returns recipes that match them. It also lets you create meal plans and organize your healthy breakfasts, lunches and dinners through the week.

EatingWell Healthy in a Hurry

If you thought eating healthy meant hours of prep and slaving over the stove, this app proves you wrong with a repertoire of quick recipes that take no longer than 45 minutes (some can be cooked in just 15). And if you can't decide what to make, there's the Recipe of the Day to make things easier.

100+ Smoothie Recipes

If inventing new smoothie combinations every day seems daunting, this app should be your ready reckoner. The 100+ recipes use everything from apples to sweet potatoes, only recommend low-fat dairy products, and not one includes sugar!

Superfood HD

Though the app interface isn't great, it holds a lot of healthy eating information, including a detailed listing of super foods, their benefits and recipes, and shopping guides.

iOS

Price: Rs 55

Dinner Spinner

Dinner Spinner works like a food slot machine. Either choose recipes across dish types, ingredients and time required, or shake your smartphone and let the categories spin at random. You can customize the results to match your gluten-free, vegetarian, or other diet.

iOS

Green Kitchen

Though the app is designed for vegetarians, the quality of the images in this app could possibly convert the staunchest of meat eaters. You get step-by-step cooking instructions (you can tap on a step when you complete it) and all recipes are marked to denote if they are vegan, raw, gluten free, sugar free or whole grain.
