Congress strongly reiterates its demand for a CBI probe into the mega drug scandal

January 07, 2014 09:53 PM

Chandigarh: As we are aware, Jagdish Bhola the drug lord has directly named Sh. Bikram Majithia Revenue Minister and brother in law of the Dy.CM Sh. Sukhbir Badal for being the mastermind of drug trafficking inPunjab. He has also accused the Punjab Police for demanding Rs. 25 crore bribe money for him to hush up the matter, besides accusing the police to go soft on him after Sh. Majithia’s call to them.

These sensational disclosures by the kingpin of a mega Rs. 6000 crore drug racket, have brought to fore a deep nexus between the drug mafia-powerful politicians and the Punjab Police. It is not the first time that Jagdish Bhola has spoken about the involvement of Akali Ministers in the drug trade; it was on 20th December 2013, that he had first disclosed the involvement of 3 Akali Ministers, one each from Majha, Doaba and Malwa.

The people ofPunjabare extremely curious to know the names of other two Ministers and other senior police officers involved in the menace, destroying the future of lacs of households in the state. It is extremely unfortunate that the Dy.CM cum Home Minister instead of ordering a fair probe, after the startling disclosures of Jagdish Bhola has blatantly chosen to defend his brother in law Sh. Bikram Majithia. By shielding and patronizing Sh. Majithia, the Dy.CM has himself become a party to the drug scandal.

Needless to mention, the Punjab Police is a highly politicized force working as a private army of the Badal-Majithia clan. The DGP Sh. Sumedh Saini himself is accused and chargesheeted in a heinous crime of abduction and kidnapping. It is highly impossible for the local police to arrest the big fish like Sh. Majithia or senior police officers involved in the racket.

Therefore, even if we go by the logic given by the Dy.CM, that because we had arrested Jagdish Bhola and it is out of resentment and a belated thought that he is now naming Sh. Bikram Majithia. If the Dy.CM is so sure of the innocence of his brother in law, why then is he so afraid of ordering a CBI inquiry? Congress also dares the Punjab Police to allow Jagdish Bhola to record his statement before a Magistrate u/s 164 of the IPC, which will have full legal validity and cannot be brushed aside.

Therefore, Congress strongly reiterates that nothing short off a CBI probe will satisfy the people ofPunjab. It is now abundantly clear that Sh. Sukhbir Badal in his capacity as Home Minister is obstructing, creating hurdles and putting pressure on the police to save his brother in law. Hence, it is pertinent for the Chief Minister to dismiss both Sh. Sukhbir Badal and Sh. Bikram Majithia from the Council of Ministers for a free and impartial inquiry.
