Amritsar--- : As part of an ongoing state-level concerted drive against drug trafficking, especially high-grade drugs like heroin, the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC), in a joint operation with the Counter Intelligence staff, Jalandhar has seized 6 kgs of heroin worth Rs.30 crores in the international market and arrested 2 persons.
Disclosing this here today Mr. Amarjit Singh Bajwa, AIG/Counter Intelligence, Jalandhar (Camp at Amritsar) informed that on a specific information, a white colour Tata Indica car No. PB-46K-9356 was intercepted by a joint party of the SSOC and CI/Jalandhar near the Sultanwind Canal and arrested two persons namely Gurdev Singh s/o Kewal Singh r/o Amarkot, PS Valtoha, Tarn Taran and Tarsem Singh @ Sema s/o Jagtar Singh r/o Ward No. 7, Tarn Taran City.
He revealed that 6 kgs of heroin has been recovered from the above two persons. A Case FIR No. 7 dated 9-10-2013 u/s 21/25/29 NDPS Act has been registered in police station SSOC. He further said that the preliminary questioning of arrested persons has revealed that they were in touch with Pakistan-based smuggler code named Bhatti who had used Pak border crossers for delivering the consignment to Gurdev Singh, Indian smuggler. Gurdev Singh had deputed Tarsem Singh for collecting the consignment, and after collection of the contraband the duo was on their way for its further disposal, he added.
He said that the arrested persons would be produced in court where police remand to question them thoroughly would be sought. It may be mentioned here that the Punjab Police was fully committed to expose such heroin trafficking rackets completely by unveiling the Pakistan end supplier, the Pakistan border crosser/courier, the Indian courier, the Indian smuggler and the intended recipient of the contraband. Further investigations are ongoing.
