CM orders magisterial probe into the boat mishap in river Beas

CHANDIGARH: Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal today ordered a magisterial probe into the tragic incident of capsizing of a boat in Beas River, in which nine passengers, who had boarded the boat from village Munda for going to a fair in village Dalla, were feared to have been drowned. The probe would ascertain the causes of this disastrous incident and suggest remedial measures to prevent any such mishap in future.

Expressing profound grief and sorrow over this tragic accident, Mr. Badal shared his heartfelt sympathies with the members of the bereaved families and prayed to the Almighty to give them courage to bear this irreparable loss in the hour of crisis and grant peace to the departed souls. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister also announced an Ex Gratia grant of Rs 1 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased and free medical treatment to the injured, if any. The Chief Minister has directed the Civil and Police administration of Kapurthala, Tarn Taran and Ferozepur districts to keep a close tab on the situation to fish out the bodies from the river on the priority and hand over to their next of kin.


On the directions of Chief Minister, Deputy Commissioner Kapurthala Mr. DS Mangat, Deputy Commissioner Tarn Taran Mr. BS Dhaliwal, Senior Superintendent of Police Kapurthala Mr. Inderbeer Singh and SSP Tarn Taran Mr. Rajjeet Singh reached on the spot to supervise the rescue operations.


Meanwhile, the Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal and Revenue and Public Relations Minister Mr. Bikram Singh Majithia also expressed profound grief and sorrow over this tragic accident and shared their condolences with the bereaved families.
