Chunni Lal Bhagat examines the functioning of labour department

Chandigarh--   The Labour Minister of Punjab Mr Chunni Lal Bhagat today examined the functioning of Labour Department and ordered the officials to submit performance report monthly. Presiding over the first meeting of Labour Department here today the
Minister said that for the welfare of labour class, higher officials would have to ensure the implementation of labour laws strictly.
The Minister has also asked the department to organize awareness camps for labourers across the state, especially in industrial cities like Ludhiana, Amritsar and Jalandhar, Mandi Gobingarh etc.

Besides that the minister has also ordered to conduct surprise checks in industrial units so that there should be no exploitation of
labourer by their employers. In factories where chemicals mostly used, the minister asked to organize  health check up camps for labourers on regular intervals. Principal Secretary, Labour Department, Mr Vishavjeet Khanna briefed the Minister that Punjab Government has initiated many welfare schemes under the Punjab Building And Construction Workers Welfare Board, which mainly included the massive increase in the amount of Shagun Scheme and scholarships.  The Minister has ordered to popularize the
whole policies through a campaign. Besides that he also ordered to complete the construction of labour sheds in districts /tehsils with the cost of Rs 10 crore.

Prominent amongst present in the meeting included Chief Parliamentary secretary Choudhary Nand Lal, Principal Secretary Mr Vishavjeet Khanna, Labour Commissioner Haropinder Singh Nanda, Additional Labour Commissioner Harish Nayyar, Deputy Director Factories Sodhi Mall.
