Ludhiana-- Punjab Congress general secretary and Dhuri MLA Arvind Khanna today asked the party leaders and workers to ensure that the National Food Security Act passed by the UPA government at the centre was properly implemented in the state. He said, while the party cadres should ensure that no undeserving person gets the benefit, at the same time they must see that no deserving person is left out as he expressed doubts about the sincerity of the Akali government in the state to implement the act properly.
Addressing a meeting of the Ludhiana district urban leaders and office bearers here today, Khanna said, there was no guarantee that the Akalis will properly implement the law and they may not be discriminatory. He said, it was the duty of all the party cadres to monitor its implementation in letter and spirit while at the same time creating awareness about the act.“You must ensure that the Akalis do not discriminate with deserving people just because they are supporters of Congress”, he warned, while cautioning that Akalis were capable of doing this with the people whom they thought were not their supporters.
Earlier Rakesh Pandey, Malkit Singh Birmi and Gurmail Singh Pehalwan listed various issues particularly the failure of the state government. They also suggested ways and means to ensure that various central laws passed recently particularly the Food Security Act and the Land Acquisition Act were properly highlighted and awareness was created about these. At the same time they added, the state government must not be allowed to sell these measures as its own.
