CHANDIGARH: The Punjab government would ensure regular disbursement of post-matric scholarship to all the eligible students in the state. A direction was given by Chief Parliamentary Secretary Higher Education Mr. Avinash Chander in a high level meeting with the senior officers of Higher Education Department held here today to review the implementation of various scholarship schemes in the state.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Avinash Chander said that the main concern of their government was to impart quality higher education through all the government as well as private educational institutions in the state. He said that the state government had launched the prestigious Dr. Hargobind Khurana Post-Matric Scholarship scheme for the meritorious students of the Government schools securing 80% or more marks in the matriculation exams.
Mr. Avimash said that all the brilliant students who secured 80% or more marks would be eligible for this scholarship up to senior secondary level. Under this scheme the state government would be spent Rs. 15 crore during 2013-14, he added. The Chief parliamentary secretary further said that this scheme would cover all Government and Adarsh schools being run by the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB). Rs 30,000 per annum would be disbursed to the students through e-transfer in their bank accounts on monthly bases i.e. Rs. 2500 per month.
He directed the senior officers of higher education department to keep close liaison with all the concerned sectors for proper implementation of various scholarship as well as other educational schemes in the schools and colleges of the state. He also directed the department to take stern action against those who failed to implement these schemes in a proper manner.
