CMA organizes visit to the Municipal Solid Waste Management Plant

Chandigarh: Chandigarh Management Association (CMA) recently organized a visit to the only running Municipal Solid Waste Management Plant in India at Dadumajra, Chandigarh under the leadership of Mr. A K Gandhi, President, CMA. Around 20 CMA members visited the Plant under the guidance of Mr. R D Sharma, General Manager, Municipal Solid Waste Management Plant.


Giving this information to Press ,Dr. Anshu Kataria, Chairman Aryans Group of Colleges Spokesman, CMA said that Mr. Sharma with his plentiful experience, briefed the CMA members that the idea of the plant was conceived in 2007.  The plant was made functional in record time of one year on 21st of May 2008 and was inaugurated by the then Governor.


He further added that the plant was set up with knowhow from the Technology Information, Forecasting and Assessment Council (TIFAC), which is an expert agency in India to support technology innovation of national importance.  The machinery is fully automated and is imported from Germany.


Mr. Sharma presented the CMA members with a video, explaining in detail each and every operation of converting garbage in to Reduced Dry Fuel (RDF), which not only is cheaper as compared to coal but is also environment friendly fuel. The presentation was followed by a very proactive question round. The polite and patient replies of Mr. Sharma satisfied all the queries.


It is to be mentioned that the plant having a capacity to manage 500 MT of waste per day was erected at a cost of Rs. 35 crore and is now functioning in 10 Acres of land on BOOT mode. Mr A K Gandhi said that despite being a working day and peak working hours, the CMA members participated with overwhelmed enthusiasm. He added that the visit was very enriching and a unique first-hand experience of visiting a fully automated plant.
