Chandigarh:The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today demanded the immediate resignation of the Congress led UPA government to revive investor confidence in the country even as it said only the NDA could arrest the alarming decline in the Indian economy. Senior SAD leaders including Punjab cabinet minister Sharanjit Singh Dhillon and the Chief Minister’s Adviser – Maheshinder Singh Grewal today said the UPA government must resign immediately and pave the way for fresh elections before the Indian rupee attained junk status. “Once this is done the people of the country will elect a government of their choice which would be assisted by charismatic leaders like Narindra Modi who will revive global confidence in the country and its leadership”, they said.
Expressing deep concern over the historic drop in the Rupee vis a vis the Dollar with the Rupee now being rated at Rs 68.16 to the Dollar, the Akali leaders said this state of affairs had come about due to gross mismanagement of the economy by the UPA government. “The slide in the rupee started occurring after the last union budget in February this year and even as it is nose diving to record lows no corrective action is being taken by the UPA”, the Akali leaders added.
SAD leaders also take on Manish Tewari. Tell him nation wants a white paper from the congress led UPA government on reasons for slide of rupee
Asserting that the situation was set to become even more precarious, Maheshinder Grewal said the Rupee was likely to sink further with the United States set to withdraw the financial stimulus package given to the country earlier. Both Grewal and Dhillon said in such a situation the people of Punjab as well as the country were shocked at Ludhiana mp Manish Tewari’s recent statement demanding the Punjab Government issue a white paper on the State’s finances. “Is Mr Tewari simply daft or is he trying to divert the attention of the people from the financial crisis affecting the centre”, they asked even as they claimed the answer was probably the latter.
The Akali leaders said it was also strange that Tewari was making misleading statements even though everyone knew that the SAD-BJP government had ensured that development continue at an even pace despite discriminatory policies adopted by the Congress led UPA and economic slowdown in the country.
