Miffed with the unequal distribution of looted booty, a group of criminals murdered their associate, police said Friday. While three have been arrested, the fourth accomplice is absconding.

Rehan, 26, Ravi Kumar, 32, Shahzada Wasim, 24, and Kamran, 25, shot dead their 28-year-old associate Shahzada Fazil for taking more than his share of money from a heist.

According to police, Fazil was killed in a flat in Daryaganj and his brother Kashif was forced to cook up a story to mislead the police.

"He (Kashif) told us that Fazil had gone to see a movie at Golcha cinema. As he couldn't get a ticket, he was returning home when two men on a motorcycle shot him," said a police official.

However, upon going through the CCTV footage of the road where the incident occurred, police came to a conclusion that Kashif was lying.

"He (Kashif) confessed that he had been threatened with dire consequences if he revealed the names of the killers," added the official.

According to police, the trio - who have a history of involvement in cases of theft, robberies, attempt to murder and murder - were arrested from Chandni Mahal in the old quarters of the city Thursday.
