Sukhbir deputes nodal officer to oversee the relief work in the flood affected areas

FAZILKA: The Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal, who today conducted intensive touring of Flood Affected villages of Fazilka and Jalalabad areas today issued directions to appoint Nodal Officers for each flood affected village to expedite the relief and compensation to the affected people.


Addressing the flood affected people after conducting the survey of 26 affected villages of this area, Mr. Badal said that Punjab Government has already requested Bhakra Beas Management Board to regulate the discharge in the Satluj river so that further escalation of floods in this area could be checked. They had been also requested to issue advance warning to the district in-charge so that people in low lying area could be safely evacuated to upper regions.


Asking Deputy Commissioner Fazilka Mr. Basant Garg to draw up a comprehensive plan for flood affected villages, Mr. Badal said that each village would have one Nodal Officer, who would coordinate the relief operations, distribution of compensation besides providing medical aid to the ailing. He said that it would be the sole responsibility of nodal officer to look after the needs of flood affected village allocated to him.


The Deputy CM ordered the expeditious completion of Girdawari (estimation of loss) and said that Girdawari should be completed immediate after water recedes so that timely compensation could be provided to the affected. He also issued instructions for Girdawari of loss to property, husbandry livestock and other losses suffered by the affected villagers.Earlier Mr. Badal visited the residences of flood affected people and also listened to the problems being faced by them in a rally organized here.
