CHANDIGARH-- The Punjab Governor and Administrator, Union Territory, Chandigarh, Mr. Shivraj V. Patil today extended his greetings to the people of Punjab and Chandigarh on the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan.
Describing this festival as a symbol of Brother-Sister bonding relationship, Mr. Patil said that it also reminds us of the need to develop a sense of Raksha, or protection not only for our sisters but also for entire society. It reflects the need for strong family ties and ultimately, unity and brotherhood, among all the communities.
In his message, Mr. Patil said that this festival also reminds us to renew our resolve to eradicate the unethical practice of female foeticide. In Punjab a special campaign “Nani Chhan” has already been launched successfully to educate people to fight against female foeticide and to save environment, which is a right step in this direction.
May the symbolic sacred threads of Rakhi strengthen the spirit of goodwill, harmony and peaceful co-existence in our families, within our country and abroad.
