Mumbai, July 19: Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan's daughter Shruti Haasan is making a comeback of sorts in Bollywood with two big releases today - one a 'raw' action drama D Day and another rom-com Ramaiya Vastavaiya.
Directed by Nikhil Advani, D-Day is a crime-thriller which also features Arjun Rampal, Rishi Kapoor, Irrfan Khan, and Huma Qureshi.
D Day, which is reportedly modelled on underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, will see Rishi Kapoor's second outing in a negative role after his portrayal of Rauf Lala in Agneepath remake.
Arjun Rampal essays the role of an ex-officer of an Indian Armed Forces unit, while National award winning actor Irrfan Khan plays an undercover RAW official.
On the other hand, Shruti Haasan plays a strong-willed prostitute based in Karachi and Huma Qureshi an explosive expert.
"The role is diametrically opposite to what I am playing in Ramaiya Vastavaiya. It's intense, performance-based, challenging and not something people expect me to do. But then I always like to do the unexpected," Shruti Haasan said earlier.
The film fraternity is all praises for the film even before its release today. Rishi Kapoor, especially, has garnered a positive response for his character portrayal.
His co-star Arjun Rampal had said: "Rishi Kapoor is a phenomenal actor; he has brought realism to his character. His performance is worth watching. I have been fortunate to work with him."
Shruti Haasan's other movie Ramaiya Vastavaiya, a rom-com, also releases today.
The film, which is directed by choreographer-turned-director Prabhudheva, marks the debut of Girish Kumar.
The rom-com is said to be based on the lines of Salman Khan starrer Pyaar Kiya Toh Darna Kya and romantic cult film Maine Pyar Kiya.
The film is a remake of Prabhudheva's Telugu super-hit Nuvvostanante.
A special feature in the film is Jacquline Fernandez's sizzling item song Jadoo ki Jhappi. The final release of today is Kiran Rao's Ship of Thesus.
