Chandigarh Branch of ICAI (The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India) today organized a seminar on “Srutiny Assesment, Penalty & Appeal under Income Tax Act 1961” at Hotel Orbit, Industrial Area, Chandigarh. CA Kapil Goel, an Income Tax Expert was the Guest Speaker. More than 150 members were benefitted from the seminar.
CA Uma Kant Mehta, Chairman Chandigarh Branch while welcoming the members said that after relieving from filing of Income Tax Returns of Non Audit cases and Companies, now the time is to attend to the cases being scheduled by Income Tax Department pertaining to different assessee on Scrutiny Assessment etc. Hence, this seminar is of much relevance to all the members in practice. CBDT has laid down clear instructions as to the questionnaire to be drafted and handed over to the assessee and it is the duty of the Assessing officer not to ask any irrelevant question in the questionnaire.
CA Kapil Goel while making presentation highlighted the need to read the notice of the Scrutiny Assessment very carefully and understand whether it is through AIR (Annual Information Report) or CASS (Computer Aided Scrutiny System) and accordingly the professionals should gear up to adhere to the guidelines of CBDT. He insist on providing the full details required by the Assessing Officer. Aggrieved by the orders of the Assessing officer, appeal can be filed with Commissioner Income Tax (Appeals) and then with ITAT(Income Tax Appellate Tribunal. The revised return can be filed before the completion of the Scrutiny Assessment and that would be taken on record by AO
