Before making her debut in films, Juhi won the Miss India title in the year 1984 and made India proud as she went on win Best Costume Award at the Miss Universe pageant.

She made her acting debut in 1986 with Sultanat which bombed at the box office. Not many know that before Juhi shared the screen with Aamir Khan in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, she had already tasted resounding success with her Kannada filmPrema Loka in 1987. Over the years, Juhi made her name in the industry as a bubbly, chirpy actress and her onscreen chemistry with Aamir Khan was terrific.

On the occasion 0f 47th birthday of Ishq actress, Bollywoodlife brings you five best films of Juhi Chawla:

Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak

In 1988, Juhi tasted success in Bollywood when she starred along with Aamir Khan in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak. The film has achieved cult status over the years and is revered by die hard romantics all over the nation. The chemistry between Juhi and Aamir was lauded by one and all, as it was on of the major highlights of the film. The film inspired from Romeo and Juliet had a sad ending, which managed to evoke extreme emotions from viewers.

Darr

This 1993 romantic thriller is famous for Shah Rukh Khan’s iconic villainous role which clearly overshadowed Sunny Deol’s heroics. But one cannot forget Juhi’s performance of damsel in distress as she emoted excellently, bringing fear in her eyes and panic in her body language when is being constantly stalked by SRK’s character.

Ishq

In 1997, the former Miss India was cast opposite Aamir yet again in multi starrer romantic comedy along with Ajay Devgn and Kajol. The bubbly image of Juhi was a perfect fit to the film’s genre. Though a commercial entertainer, Ishq is one of the biggest hits in Juhi Chawla’s filmi career.

I am

Over the years, Juhi has been one of the actress who has aged gracefully and has carefully chosen her roles in the latter part of her carrer. In 2011, she starred in an anthology film made out of four short films directed by Onir. The film handled many sensitive topics like gay rights, sperm donation, child abuse and fate of Kashmiri pundits. Juhi stars as a Kashmiri Pandit who returns to the valley for a business trip after 20 years only to find out that her Muslim friend has suffered too.

Gulaab Gang

Given her cute, child like face, not many believed that Juhi could pull off a negative character successfully. But she proved her critics wrong as she played a cunning, manipulative, venom spewing politico in Gulaab Gang. Though the film also starred veteran actress Madhuri Dixit, it was Juhi’s role that was the highlight of the film as she managed to overshadow Madhuri with her splendid performance.

We wish the Gulaab Gang actress a very happy birthday and hope that she continues to entertain her with more interesting roles.
