Statement by the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages

November 12, 2014 02:39 PM

The Canadian digital media industry is growing, and thanks to creative individuals and companies, Canada continues to be a leader in this sector.

More than ever, digital media play a key role in showcasing Canadian content here and abroad.

Tonight, excellence in Canadian digital media was honored at the 2014 Digi Awards. Awards were presented to Canadian businesses in 10 categories, including mobile entertainment, video marketing and advertising, and cross-platform projects.

The Government of Canada recognizes that the Canadian digital media industry is an important generator of economic growth, jobs and wealth in our communities. The Government invests more than $660 million annually in the audiovisual sector, including $134.1 million through the Canada Media Fund (CMF) in 2013–2014. In 2013–2014, the CMF invested $354.5 million in the creation of digital screen-based Canadian content that Canadians want and enjoy.

On behalf of Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Government of Canada, I would like to congratulate this year’s nominees and award winners and thank all those who work to enhance Canada’s digital media landscape.
