Singers: Sukhwinder Singh, Shankar Mahadevan, Arijit Singh, Nihira Joshi Deshpande, Gulzar, Sunidhi Chauhan, Siddharth Mahadevan, Adnan Sami, Udit Narayan, Rasika Chandrashekhar, Loy Mendonsa, Ali Zafar and Mahalakshmi Iyer
Yash Raj Films upcoming venture Kill Dil is slated to release next month. StarringRanveer Singh, Parineeti Chopra, Ali Zafar and Govinda in the lead roles, the film looks promising. In fact, just a few days back the trailer of Kill Dil was released and it garnered rave reviews on social media. But is the music of this YRF film as interesting? Considering the musical trio Shankar Mahadevan, Ehsaan Noorani and Loy Mendonsa have composed the album, expectations are naturally high. So let’s find out whether they live up to them or not…
Kill Dil: First up is the title track of Ranveer-Parineeti starrer which has been sung by Shankar Mahadevan and Sonu Nigam, The track starts off with a dhansu shayari and from there on the song never loses its tempo. Shankar-Eshaan-Loy have indeed done a mighty job with the music. Yes, it’s not a typical Bollywood number but it’s energetic and you won’t be bored even for a second. Also, the composers have managed to build certain kind of suspense and drama through their music which is quite impressive. Overall, the title track of Kill Dil is certainly worth hearing!
Happy budday: This one isn’t as engaging as Kill Dil. However, Sukhwinder Singh and Shankar Mahadevan have crooned this number nicely and we loved the way Happy budday starts off. Also, the music is upbeat and very vibrant making this desi dance number worth grooving to. Even the lyrics are quirky but as a song Happy budday is just about okay. It wouldn’t hurt if you hear it once but make sure you watch the video as well because Ranveer Singh thoroughly entertains with his jhakass dance moves.
Sajde: For this romantic-cum-rock song, Arjit Singh has lent his melodious voice along with Nihira Joshi Deshpande. Sajde will take you by surprise because it starts off as slow romantic number but suddenly the tempo changes and you get to hear thumping music. The transition from romantic to a rock sort of number is smooth and refreshing. But there is more to this track. Shankar-Eshaan-Loy have given this song a traditional touch as well. Two minutes into the song and you’ll get to hear tabla beats. So if you’re an ardent music lover and like smallest of nuances then you just can’t afford to miss this beautiful rendition. And for the rest of you, at least hear Sajde once, because there is something for everybody in this song.
Bol Beliya: Sung by Sunidhi Chauhan, Siddharth Mahadevan and Shankar Mahadevan, this song is high on electrifying music. But somehow it didn’t work for me. Though the lyrics are very desi, Bol beliya has more of rock feel to it which works just fine. While Sunidhi and Siddharth have sung their part quite well, it’s Shankar Mahadevan who steals the show with his dumdaar vocals. Hear this one just for him!
Sweeta: Adnan Sami is back and how! He has crooned this fun number too perfection. His voice is as always soothing to the ears. More than anything else, it’s just good to hear Adnan Sami’s powerful voice. Overall, Sweeta is a good hear.
Daiyya Maiyya: This track is sung by Udit Narayan, Shankar Mahadevan and Rasika Chandrashekhar. Though it’s quite thanda compared to the rest of the songs, the lyrics are super hilarious. Also, you get hear Jaaved Jaaferi who has rapped a bit in this song. And it’s not bad at all. So if you want to laugh and have just fun then hear Daiyya Maiyya.
Baawra: Shankar Mahadevan starts off this number with a bang. Then you get to hear Nihira whose voice is just mesmerising. At first, Baawra seems like a slow romantic number but then the music tempo changes after a minute or so. Also, there is a beautiful shayari at the very beginning. All in all, Baawra isn’t extraordinary but it’s a decent hear.
Nakhriley: This song reminded me of the ‘80s only because it’s more like a qawwali. Nakhriley has been sung by Shankar Mahadevan, Ali Zafar, Mahalakshmi Iyer and Gulzar. Just like other songs, this track too starts off with a shayari but it just failed to keep me hooked. In fact, I wasn’t even compelled to hear the song till the end. So I guess if you skip this one, you won’t regret.
