SYNOPSIS:

The film ‘EkkeesToppon Ki Salaami’ is about two sons Subhash Joshi (Divyendu Sharma) and Shekhar Joshi (Manu Rishi) who set out on a journey to get their father Purushotam Narayan Joshi (AnupamKher) what he always wanted and had dreamt of throughout his life, which was nothing but – the ultimate sign of respect. The movie takes you through ride that is filled with loads of thrills and laughter as both the sons seriously wish to fulfill their father’s dream to get him an ‘EkkeesToppon Ki Salaami’ (salute of 21 guns). Purushotam Joshi is a common man who does not get his bit of appreciation even though when he has been loyal and honest to his life-long service as a Government employee. Therefore, knowing of their father’s honesty and loyalty, both the sons live up and try to reach the unreachable to get their father the only wish he had. The whole catch of the film is whether Subhash and Shekhar will succeed in their trial to provide a 21 gunshot salute to honor his father?

STORY, SCREENPLAY AND DIALOGUES:

The story is completely fresh with a new concept and it is very different from what we normally come across. The story is written by RahilQazi. The director of the movie has targeted the common man and therefore they will be able to easily connect the story. The screenplay is very well executed, although there are a few glitches. The dialogues are okay and not extraordinary, and somehow they could’ve been better.

PERFORMANCES:

Divyendu Sharma has done an excellent job in this movie, as he has earlier performed in his previous movies. He is very good in the emotional as well as the comic sequences. AnupamKher, as we all are aware is really a very good actor and has yet again left no room for any error. He has shown his excellence as a worthy actor in his previous movies and stole the show even in this movie. Aditi Sharma being a newbie has also surprised us with her good performance; and especially in the climax of the film where she had to give a speech. Rest of the actors including Manu Rishi were perfect in their parts. Nonetheless, it is difficult to interpret that NehaDhupia being an excellent as well as an experienced actor chose to play a short side role.

DIRECTION, CINEMATOGRAPHY AND EDITING:

Director RavindraGautamdeserves praises as he has really put his efforts to test for this movie and of course it is very well appreciated as well. Cinematography by Sanjay Mamane was very well done as he covered the posh as well as the slum areas artistically. Somehow, the editing was a little vague and it could’ve been much more sharp and crispier. The editing of the movie was dealt by Amitabh Shukla and Sanjay Sharma. The first part of the movie was to the point, whereas the second half seemed a little bit extended just for the heck of finishing it. Like the drainage part that was shot, it was not at all necessary and should have been deleted.

ACTION, BACKGROUND SCORE AND MUSIC:

There is no action in the movie and hence there is no scope for action in the film. The background score of the movie is really bad. No special care and attention was given to it. The music of the film is directed by Ram Sampath which is an attempt to make it youthful; however it couldn’t keep up to its expectation. Out of all the five songs, there are only two songs which keep up to main theme of the movie which focuses on the father-son relationship. The song ‘Classic Desi’ is sung by SonaMohapatra which carries a message to all the men to stop staring at the girls. ‘Hum TumheKaiseBataye’ is a modern ghazal where two lovers indulge in mutual admiration. ‘Bitua’ is an emotional song specifically written and sung by a father to a son, for which MohitChauhan has sung the song at his best and directly reached the heart. The title song ‘EkkeesToppon Ki Salami’ has a modern day feel to it with those 21 guns salute with the Ram Sampath’s vocals and Earl Edgar D’s raps in the interludes. There were a few songs in the movie which clearly unwanted.

CHOREOGRAPHY, LOCATIONS AND PRODUCTION VALUE:

Choreography by Pony Varma is okay. The locations are also fine as they well the theme of the movie. The production value of the film is average.

OUR VERDICT:

In all, as per the less promotional activities by the makers, not much was expected out of the film, but you will definitely be surprised if you go and watch the film, majorly because of its unique concept and excellent performances by all the actors.
