SYNOPSIS:

‘Finding Fanny’ is not the usual Bollywood masala entertainer, but a wacky film which describes humor in a totally different fashion. The story is based in a Goan village, where Angie (Deepika) plays the widow of Garbo (Ranveer), who lives with her mother-in-law Rosie Eucharistica (Dimple) who is also another widow. Angie is happy in her own space and she loves helping others; therefore she sets out on a mission to aid Fredie (Naseeruddin) to fetch the love of his life. Although, she doesn’t undergo the task all by herself; her mom-in-law, Savio (Arjun), and painter Don Pedro Cleto Colaco (Pankaj) who found his muse in Rosie, also accompany Angie in the operation.

STORY, SCREENPLAY AND DIALOGUES:

The first half of the movie is very crisp and to the point, whereas the second half is a bit slow. The story mainly spins around the five characters who reside in a small village called Pocolim in Goa, where life is pretty simple and slow. The needs of the people in the village are very minimal and they live a life which is quite straightforward. Angie decides wants to help Fredie, who is an old postman of the village. He seemed very depressed, as it has been 46 years and he finds out that the love letter which he had written to the woman he loved, in fact never reached her. Savio loved Angie since many years and he drives the car because he is the only one who knows how to drive. That car belongs to Don Pedro, who is interested in Rosalina. It is not the destination of these five characters which matters, but it actually is their journey; which is entirely different from each other. However, they all have clean hearts and are always ready to help each other. The screenplay and the dialogues are executed very neatly. However, there were a few loopholes in the script as a few portions of the film were left unexplained. The dialogues of all the characters were apt and were very well delivered by all the actors. Nevertheless, the Hindi audience will not be able to connect appropriately because the dialogues will not be as impressive as they are in English.

PERFORMANCES:

All the actors have performed exceptionally well. Naseeruddin Shah plays his character too innocently but very tactfully. Words are not enough to describe Pankaj Kapoor’s performance. He enacted his role so well, that the viewers would not be able to forget his character, of everyone in the movie. Deepika looked gorgeous throughout the movie and even she acted too well. Arjun Kapoor also was at his best performance showcasing his talent and they all collectively put up an amazing story.

DIRECTION, CINEMATOGRAPHY AND EDITING:

Homi Adajania did an excellent job in his direction. He executed the story so well and also the actors supported his cause very well. Anil Mehta did a tremendous job with the Cinematography of the film. The movie is very well formed and its editing also was a class apart. Watching the movie, it seemed everything; including the production, direction, cinematography, editing and the music was perfectly synchronized. Also the actors were very clear with the ideology of the film. All the actors and all the various vital aspects of filmmaking were in place.

ACTION, BACKGROUND SCORE AND MUSIC:

All the songs are very well positioned in the various intervals of the film. It is very important and also difficult to get the music right, which definitely is crucial and it evidently is in proper sync with the director’s point of view. Mathias Duplessy and Sachin-Jigar are the talents dealing with the music and they also have done their job perfectly like the rest.

CHOREOGRAPHY, LOCATIONS AND PRODUCTION VALUE:

The locations selected in the movie are very beautiful and goes perfectly with the setting and the theme of the movie. Choreography has no scope as the dance and the songs act mostly as fillers for the film. The Production value is of decent standard.

OUR VERDICT:

The movie gets 3.5 stars as per our conclusion, as the climax of the movie is a bit predictable. The movie turns out to be really great mainly because of the performances of the star-cast and the also the entire different production teams.
