The highly anticipated film of the year won’t see its release this Diwali.
The eagerly-awaited Shah Rukh Khan starrer Happy New Year won’t be a Diwali release after all. At least, not technically.
The film’s much-flaunted release date on Diwali day September 23 has been shifted to post-Diwali September 24.
This was done in the light of the recently-acquired belief that audiences do not flock to see films in the pre-Diwali and Diwali days.
Says a prominent member of the Happy New Year cast, “Farah wanted to release on Diwali day. It was Shah Rukh’s call to hold back by a day. We were all surprised considering his big blockbusters including Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge were released on Diwali. But I think Shah Rukh feels audiences don’t want to step out of their homes on Diwali day.He feels they like to do Laxmi puja on that day at home.
Last year Rakesh Roshan has taken the customarily prized Diwali release to the next level.
Moving away from the traditional Friday release Rakesh Roshan had decided to release Krissh 3on Sunday November 3 which was Diwali. However he changed his releases plans at the last minute and released two days earlier ,arguing that audiences like to stay home on Diwali day.
Most A-list stars are too taken up with the first day’s collections.
The 1st day collections which may be 10 or 15% less on Diwali day than expected. But the bigger benefit in such a release would be computed in the total week’s collection.
However it’s the mindset that has to change.
