Ottawa – Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat
Today marks the start of National Public Service Week, June 15 to 21—a time to recognize the important role public servants play in delivering timely and effective programs and services to Canadians. The theme for this year's celebration is "Proudly Serving Canadians."
Canadians rely on the federal public service to deliver a broad range of services, from assisting those applying for EI, CPP or OAS and issuing passports, to patrolling our coasts and maintaining our national parks.
Departments and agencies from across the Public Service will be organizing events across Canada to recognize accomplishments and celebrate being part of the Public Service of Canada.
Quick facts
- There are over 400,000 public service employees who work all over the country, and around the world, delivering services to Canadians.
- Parliament enacted the National Public Service Week: Serving Canadians Better Act in 1992 to promote pride in, and recognition of, the Public Service of Canada.
Quotes
"The Government of Canada would not function without the commitment and dedication of the individuals who make up our world class, federal public service. Together, we will continue to review, assess, and modernize, not only to maintain, but to improve the efficiency of the system and the services we provide to Canadians."
– Tony Clement, President of the Treasury Board
