(Calgary)
Member of Parliament Hon. Deepak Obhrai was today declared as the Conservative
Party’s candidate to run in the next federal election for the newly formed riding of Calgary
Forest Lawn. There was no challenge.
“I extend my sincere thank you to the residents of the new riding of Calgary Forest Lawn, for
their support. I am grateful for the trust they have placed in me as their sole candidate in the
next federal election. The support and encouragement was overwhelming since December
2013, when the new Calgary Forest Lawn Electoral District Association was formed and
subsequently the nomination opened. I am humbled by this vote of confidence,” Obhrai said.
Obhrai, first elected as a Member of Parliament in 1997, was re-elected in 2000, 2004, 2006,
2008 and 2011. In the current Conservative government, Obhrai serves as Parliamentary
Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and for International Human Rights.
