The Honourable Deepak Obhrai, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and for International Human Rights, will travel to Koror, Palau, to participate in the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) Post Forum Dialogue plenary session on August 1, 2014. This will be the Parliamentary Secretary’s sixth consecutive Post Forum Dialogue meeting, demonstrating Canada’s commitment to the Pacific Islands.

“The Post Forum Dialogue is a great occasion for Canada to engage Pacific Island states on forum themes such as ocean conservation and fisheries,” said Obhrai. “It is also an opportunity to advance Canada’s priorities of human rights, democracy, peace and security, and disaster relief.”

The PIF brings together 16 member countries from across the Pacific: Australia, Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, the Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, New Zealand, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.

Since 1989, the PIF has held Post Forum Dialogue meetings with key dialogue partners, including Canada.
