SYNOPSIS:

‘Jai Ho’, is a story of Jai (Salman Khan), who is an ex-army officer. He was suspended as he didn’t follow the orders given by his high command and killed some terrorist to save a few children. Jai has a group of friends including Sumit (Ashmit Patel) and Babu (Yash Tonk). Whenever, Jai helps someone, he asks the person to help more three people, instead of thanking him, and that three people will help more people. And like this he feels that he can make a chain of people helping each other to change the country. So will he be successful in changing the country? What obstacles he gets while following the process? What sacrifices does he make? This is the rest of the story.

STORY, SCREENPLAY AND DIALOGUES:

‘Jai Ho’ is the official remake of Telugu film ‘Stalin’. The story of the film mainly revolves around Salman Khan and his character seems to be inspired from Arvind Kejriwal. But, Kejriwal’s situations are happening now a day’s and this film looks like it is set in the 1980’s, which is hard to digest in this era. Dilip Shukla’s screenplay is totally childish and poorly written. We feel that while writing the screenplay he took inspiration from Mithun Chakraborty’s flop movies which released in the mid 90’s. The screenplay confuses audience. While in one scene the characters are in Dubai, in the other they reach India out of nowhere. A lot of cinematic liberties have been taken which irritates at a point in the film. We can surely say that this film has one of the worst stories and screenplay that any other superstar movie had in recent times.

PERFORMANCES:

Salman Khan is the only saving factor of the film. He is good and the actor is the only reason that audience won’t leave the theatres before the movie comes to an end. It’s his star power that holds the audience to be glued to their seats. Tabu will be seen onscreen after a long time, but the actress disappoints with her act. One can’t blame her as her character is so weak. Nadira Babbar, who plays the mother of Salman Khan in the film, is the most disappointing aspect of all. The movie will see two actresses making their B-Town debut; Daisy Shah and Sana Khan. While, Sana Khan is strictly ok, Daisy manages to grab the attention. The actress looks beautiful and she has magnificent screen presence. We can say that she has a bright future. Actors like Mohnish Bahl and Mahesh Manjrekar are totally wasted. Danny Denzongpa is good and Santosh Shukla grabs the attention every time he comes on screens, even though it’s his first Hindi film.

Rest of the cast including, Suniel Shetty, Genelia D'Souza, Mahesh Thakur, Resham Tipnis, Ashmit Patel, Yash Tonk, Aditya Pancholi, Sharad Kapoor, Pulkit Samrat, Tulip Joshi, Varun Badola and Mukul Dev are disappointing.

DIRECTION, CINEMATOGRAPHY AND EDITING:

After directing the flop film ‘Maine Dil Tujhko Diya’ 12 years back, Sohail Khan is once again returning as a director with ‘Jai Ho’. Well, the first question that comes in our mind is that how can a director approve such a poor script and clichéd screenplay. All the characters in the film look so artificial. If a talented actress like Tabu fails to impress, then the blame solely goes on the story and the direction. With such a lame script and screenplay, Sohail too fails to helm the film well. Santosh Thundiyil’s cinematography is ok and editing of Harsh Tiwari could have been tighter.

ACTION, BACKGROUND SCORE AND MUSIC:

A. Arasakumar & Ravi Varma have done a very good job with their action. Background score by Sandeep Shirodkar is impactful, while the music of the film which is given by Sajid-Wajid, Devi Sri Prasad and Amal Malik is strictly ok. Few songs like ‘Photocopy’, ‘Tumko To Aana Hi Tha’ and ‘Naacho Re’ are impressive.

CHOREOGRAPHY, LOCATIONS AND PRODUCTION VALUE:

Remo D’Souza, Radhika Rao, Vinay Sapru, Jani Basha and Mudassar Khan’s choreography is not at all good. All these choreographers have done pathetic choreography. Locations used in the film are good and production value is very high.

OUR VERDICT:

‘Jai Ho’ is a movie that could have been a flop in the 80’s as well and it is also unfit in today’s era. However, if you want to watch a movie with no story, poor screenplay and childish performances, then you may go for it, otherwise if you skip it that will be better. In short, just as too many cooks spoil the broth, too many actors have spoilt this film.
