Foreign nationals/NRIs/PIOs/OCIs now eligible for a domestic non-subsidized LPG connection

Chandigarh, In a major decision, the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas has decided that foreign nationals/NRIs/PIOs/OCIs would now be eligible for a domestic non-subsidized LPG connection after the matter was examined in the Ministry in consultation with Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs & Ministry of External Affairs in wake of the notice issued to these ministries by the NRI Commission, Punjab on the complaint of Baldev Singh & Vijay Kumar Saria.

 

A spokesman of the Commission said that Baldev Singh & Vijay Kumar Saria have made a complaint with the Commission that they cannot live without having a Gas cylinder for cooking, for which one has to apply with a declaration that “I am an Indian Citizen” and since they are not, they cannot apply for a Gas cylinder, which frustrates their intention to stay in India for a longer period.

 

He further said that a notice was issued by the Commission to the Indian Oil Corporation, who informed that the Regulating Ministry is the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas. He said that after that the Commission had issued notice to Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas to look into this issue.

 

Now, Under Secretary (Marketing) Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas has submitted a report that the matter was examined in the Ministry in consultation with Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs & Ministry of External Affairs and it has been decided that foreign nationals/NRIs/PIOs/OCIs would now be eligible for a domestic non-subsidized LPG connection.
