Chandigarh: In a bid to make optimum utilization of the solar energy in the Milk/ food processing industry in the state, a new technology of Heat Pump (EHP) has been introduced by Milkfed at its Milk Plant inChandigarh.
Giving the details Managing Director Milkfed Mrs. Alaknanda Dayal said that the Milk Cooperative in collaboration with TERI (The Energy & Resources Institute) conducted a workshop to promote energy efficient technology in Milk Processing, Food Processing and other Hospitality areas, here today. Under this new project, Milkfed with the support of JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) Ministry of Environment and Forests has introduced a new EHP technology at its Milk Plant inChandigarh. She said that the key feature of this EHP technology was that it performs simultaneous electrical chilling and heating operations besides offering an opportunity to milk/food processing industries to significantly cut down their energy consumption.
In their presentation Mr. Hidehiro Kitayama, Expert Mayekawa, Japan and Dr. Kohei Kawanishi, Fellow IGES (Institute for Global Environmental Strategies) Japan explained to the delegates in detail regarding EHP technology, its benefits, results achieved at VERKA Milk Plant in Chandigarh. It also aimed to explore possibilities of promoting the technology in other milk/food processing plants in the region. The workshop was followed by a visit to the demonstrated site of Milkfed Milk Plant inChandigarh.
The workshop was attended by the participants from various industries, Industries Association of Chandigarh & Mohali, Chamber of Industries Chandigarh, Dairy cooperatives of Punjab & Haryana, National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), Anand, private dairy & food industries, Hospitality industry such as CITCO, JW Marriott, The Taj etc. Managing Director Markfed Punjab Dr. KS Sra also attended the workshop.
