CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Government has issued a notification regarding new ration cards, in which oldest woman in a family would be considered the head of family.
Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the Food and Civil Supply Department said that as per the section 13 of the National Food Security Act, 2013, the Punjab Government designates the oldest woman of the family, who is not less than eighteen years of the age, as head of the household for the purpose of issue of ration card under the public distribution system.
He further said that where a household, at any time, does not have a woman or a woman of eighteen years of age or above, but has a female member below the said age, then, the oldest male member of the household shall be the head of the household for the purpose of issue of ration card and the female member, on attaining such age shall become the head of the household for the ration card in place of the said male member.
The spokesperson clarify that till the time, the new ration cards are not issued, the oldest woman of the family would deem to be considered as the head in old ration cards too.
