London, Dec 21

Britain will help with the destruction of chemical weapons in Syria, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) said Friday.

In a statement, the FCO said that Britain had agreed to destroy 150 tonnes of two industrial-grade chemicals from the Syrian stockpile, Xinhua reported.

The arms are to be carried to the country and sent to a commercial site so as to be incinerated, it said.

A Royal Navy vessel will help Danish and Norwegian cargo ships to carry the chemicals, Skynews reported.

"The UK is also providing specialist equipment to the U.S. to assist with the hydrolysis of the most sensitive chemicals before their final destruction," said the FCO.
