Chandigarh: To popularize and promote livestock breeding the Punjab Government is organizing 5th Livestock Championship and Milking Competitions at Sri. Muktsar Sahib in which 5000 animals are expected to participate from all over the country and reward of Rs.1.25 crore would be given to the winners.

Disclosing this Punjab Animal Husbandry, Fisheries and Dairy Development Minister S. Gulzar Singh Ranike said that these 5 day breeders and milking competitions were being organized from January 8 to January 12, 2014 at Guru Gobind Singh Statdium, Sri. Muktsar Sahib. As many as 500 tents for animals and 250 tents for livestock owners would be set up. The entire championship would be Videographed, added Ranike.
Mr. Ranike said that Horses (Marwardi and Nukra), Cows (Jersy, HF & Sahiwal), Buffalos, Sheep, Goats, Poultry and Piggery breed competitions would be conducted for the state animals whereas competitions for Horses, Cows and Buffalos breed would be conducted for other states. He said that milking competitions of bufallow (Murrah and Nili Ravi), cows(HF, Jersy and Sahiwal) and goats would be conducted within the state whereas buffalos, cows (HF and Desi Breed) and goats from the other states of the country.
In addition comeptitions of dog show, equestrian and Horse races would also be organised. He said that Tent, pegging, show jumping, Dog Show, Motor Cycle show, Trick ridding and Band Display would the main attractions of the fair. He further said that livestock owners would be given transportation charges. Stalls would be set up for the livestock owners have complete knowledge regarding different schemes of Horticulture, Dairy, Fisheries, Agriculture, Rural Development and Panchayats, Tourisms, Milkfed and Marfed departments. owners.
