Ferozepur: The Border Security Force personnel have successfully seized five packets of contraband suspected to be Heroin on Punjabborder today morning in the area of Border Out Post New Mohamdiwala, Ferozepur Sector.
Keeping in view the vulnerability of Border from smuggling point of view, Shri Ajay Kumar Tomar, IPS, Inspector General BSF Punjab Frontier has issued operational guidelines to further strengthen border domination especially in view of foggy weather and ongoing dark nights so as to effectively check the menace of narcotics smuggling on Punjab border with Pakistan. Consequently BSF Field Units are maintaining enhanced vigil on border.
The troops were on high alert as inputs were received regarding threat of smuggling from the area of Border Out Post New Mohamdiwala. Giving this information by RPS Jaswal, DIG, Sr.PRO, Punjab Frontier, BSF through an email has informed that on the intervening 10-11 Dec 2013 night, BSF troops laid special ambush in the area of responsibility of Border Out Post New Mohamdiwala. On 11th Dec 2013 at about 0415 hrs, BSF troops of Border Out Post New Mohamdiwala heard sound of something thrown over the Border Security fence but no movement of persons was noticed and observed due to thick fog and dark night in the alignment of Boundary Pillar No. 182/3-4.
However troops on duty immediately rushed towards the place of occurrence and found 04 packets of contraband suspected to be heroin along the Border Security fence. Place of Occurrence is at a distance of approx 150 metres from International Border and approx 10 metres from Border Security fence. A search operation was carried out after first light and during search 01 more packet suspected to be heroin was also recovered ahead of Border Security fence (at a distance of 15 meters from Border Security fence) leading to a total seizure of 05 packets (approx value Rs. 25 Crore in International Market) of contraband suspected to be heroin.
