BJP leads in all four states

New Delhi, Dec 8 (IANS) The BJP Sunday took early leads as officials counted millions of votes in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Delhi, with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) making its mark in the capital.

With postal votes taken up first for counting, the Bharatiya Janata Party was far ahead of the Congress in Madhya Pradesh, which it has ruled for a decade, and Congress-administered Rajasthan.

In Madhya Pradesh, BJP candidates were leading all others in 18 constituencies. The Congress was leading in eight.

In neighbouring Chhattisgarh too, BJP candidates had forged ahead in seven constituencies in comparison to five of the Congress.

In Congress-ruled Rajasthan, the BJP made spectacular gains, with its candidates on the winning track in 20 seats. The Congress was ahead in eight seats.

In Delhi, the debutant AAP of Arvind Kejriwal was on the lead in five places. The BJP was ahead in 10 seats. Congress candidates surged ahead in five seats too.

Hundreds of officials Sunday morning began counting some 83 million votes polled in the four states in elections held in November and December.
