Kashmir Valley to get heavy snowfall

With the minimum temperatures across Jammu and Kashmir dropping several notches below normal, the weather office Monday forecast moderate to heavy snowfall on Wednesday-Thursday.

"The minimum temperature today (Monday) dropped to 1.2 degrees Celsius in Srinagar city, which is two degrees below normal.

"It was minus 1.0 degrees in Gulmarg, which is two degrees below normal, while Pahalgam recorded a minimum temperature of minus 3.0 degrees today (Monday), which is three degree below normal.

"Jammu city recorded a minimum of 11.8 degrees Celsius, which is also three degrees below normal.

"The minimum temperatures dropped to minus 8.0 degrees in the Leh town and minus 6.0 degrees in the Kargil town of Ladakh region Monday.

"We have recorded below normal temperatures across Jammu and Kashmir for the first time this season Monday.

"There would be moderate to heavy snowfall in the higher reaches of the valley, including Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Sonamarg and the Zojilla Pass area Nov 6-7.

"Travellers on the Srinagar-Leh highway are advised to exercise caution while undertaking the journey during these days," Abdul Rashid Zargar, deputy director of the weather office told IANS.
